What to do if you spot a coyote.

Hazing is a method that makes use of deterrents to move an animal out of an area or discourage an undesirable behavior or activity. Hazing can help maintain a coyote’s fear of humans and deter them from backyards and play spaces.

  • Yell and wave your arms while walking toward the coyote.
  • Use noise makers like air horns, whistles, pots, or pennies in a can to scare them.
  • Throw sticks, tennis balls, small rocks, or other projectiles at them.
  • Turn the hose on them.
